FEEDBACK FROM WWR PARTICIPANTS

Just 72 hours ago a friend asked me to fill in for a runner who unexpectedly had to drop out of this past weeken's WWR---this was one of the top 5 experiences of my  41 years on this planet. I will absolutely NEVER forget the surreal experience of (I can't remember the leg # but it is the hardest I believe) of climbing 8.8 miles up the steepest grade  in the middle if the night with a sky above that resembled a planetarium!  Thank God for the restaurant that served pasta! The volunteers were WONDERFUL--I thanked them all--especially the folks serving pancakes on Saturday before I had to run Rabbit Ears. Thanks again--you got me hooked.

You could not have picked and designed a more beautiful course!  Your course challenged us and provided us with memories that will last a lifetime.  The volunteers were very friendly and supportive and the exchanges well planned out.  We appreciate the details you provided, the emphasis on safety, and the excellent route signage and maps.  It amazed us that the difference between 2nd and 4th place in a race of this caliber was 35 seconds (only one stoplight).  Accurate, well planned start times and adjusting of 10k times to match the difficulty of legs led to a very close race.

I am in awe of the job your volunteer coordinator did on the Wild West Relay.  The race (which I loved by the way) could have been a disaster without the trained, ready, and pleasant volunteers.  From my perspective it went off flawlessly.  Given the number of volunteers, the variety of jobs they had to perform, the weird hours, and the geographic dispersion, pulling this all together was a pretty impressive feat.

Thank you for one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. We had a mixed team, some amazing and some average, I am in the average category, however have been more motivated to step it up and train hard for next year and other events and it's all your fault. I am in better shape now than I have been in 10 years, (young @ 40!). Most of us did not know each other before the race, and the bond between us and the friendships formed on this trip are truly wonderful. I have told so many people about the event and experience that I hope your numbers triple next time! Really really, just want to say thanks. You rock!

I just have to let you know that this was the very best race I have ever run in. I usually bypass races because I get too nervous, but this race was so much FUN that I am going to run it every year until I keel over. I just wanted to tell you what a wonderful race you put on. We were the 5 person team of "Taking It Up The Pass". 3 of our team have done multiple IRONMAN races, etc. However, we had 2 ladies who had never run more than a 10k before this race. They were very inspirational to do what they did to get our team to the finish line (time was not our goal, finishing was). What a struggle, but a lovely one at that. Never had more pain and fun at the same time. On behalf of my whole team, THANKS. We will return.

Congratulations on organizing a top notch event! Having run XXX a couple times I think you have surpassed that relay in terms of logistics and planning. Even though your course and the terrain is obviously more challenging I would choose WWR over XXX any day!

Just finished the run yesterday and may I say it was one of the best-organized events I've ever been in.  I cannot praise you enough on what a great job you all did: the mapping, the prep work (getting info out on what to bring, what to expect, what to do), the exchanges - from start to finish I was constantly amazed on how well run everything SEEMED to go (you all might have a different perspective!). Thanks for such a well-organized relay.  I would highly recommend this run to anyone who wants to have a good time and a challenging course.

This was an excellent race and all our team members had a wonderful time. We couldn't think of anything that should be done differently! The volunteers were well trained, very nice and helpful. The 1-mile-to-go signs were a huge hit as well. We enjoyed the camaraderie and good-natured competitiveness with the other teams. Thank you for all of your hard work. I just wanted you to know that this race was so wonderful for Matt.  He did incredible with the support of his pacer and came back from the experience with a new sense of accomplishment, victory and hope.  It's been a long time since I've seen him doing so well.  He gets up every morning ready to workout (we've been home for 5 days and have already been to 4 spinning classes) and ready to help around the house (I really like this one).  I think that this race gave him more confidence because he was part of a team and because he succeeded so well.  We both appreciate this opportunity and of course we really appreciate all of the encouragement from well-wishers.

Please know that the “Napa Valley Mealybugs” had a fabulous time!! Any number of times, team members commented on the organization of the event, from soup to nuts, the pleasant interactions with the organizers, volunteers, and the runners. I did some quick calculating on our race fee plus the extra donation. We paid $0.53 per mile for an outstandingly grand amount of fun. A recent marathon that my wife and I signed up for is costing us $2.10 per mile and it will all be over in 4 - 5 hours. This is the best bargain in running! The Dallas Hill Wranglers are planning to return next year to defend our Flatlanders title. Thanks again for a great race.
