Reporting Time:
Estimated Closing Time:
Location: Intersection of Red Feather Lakes Rd and Manhattan Rd (CR 71) - INACTIVE VAN TURN
Directions:
You will need to go to Exch 12 at the Chapel in the Pines to pick up your equipment.
From I-25 - Get off I-25 at the Fort Collins Mulberry Street exit (Exit 269B). Go west on Hwy 14 (Mulberry St) for 4 miles to Hwy 287 (College Ave.) in downtown Fort Collins. Then:
From downtown Fort Collins: Go north on Hwy 287 (College Ave). Go north on Hwy 287 for 21 miles to Red Feather Lakes Road. You'll see "The Forks" restaurant at this turnoff. Turn left (west) onto Red Feather Lakes Road (also known as Larimer County Road 74E). Go 23.5 miles up Red Feather Lakes Road to the Chapel of the Pines (on your left). STOP HERE TO PICK UP THE EQUIPMENT YOU NEED. Then go 1/2 mile further up the road to the intersection of Manhattan Road (CR 71) opposite the Pot Belly Restaurant.
Volunteer Parking: Turn left on to Manhattan Rd - just past the stop sign nere this a pullout for volunteer parking.
Unique to this Exchange:
The INACTIVE VAN will have a YELLOW sign. The ACTIVE VAN will have an ORANGE or WHITE sign.
Staffing:
Van Monitors - 3; V1 should be stationed before the entrance to the Pot Belly Restaurant and should use their flag to wave vans with ORANGE OR WHITE signs straight ahead, and for vans with YELLOW signs, point at them and then wave at them to turn to the left. V2 should also be reinforcing the direction. V3 should note any INACTIVE VANS that ignore instructions and go straight on their time sheet.
Exchange Notes:
The exchange equipment is stored in one of the portable toilets at Exchange 12 so please stop there to pick up your equipment. If there is a lock, the combination is "195". In the portable toilet, you will find a reflective safety vest for each volunteer - these must be worn by each volunteer. You will also find one red flag each to use to direct traffic and a Notebook with a map of the Active/Inactive Van Intersection and instructions.
This is an intersection where only the ACTIVE VAN can continue straight on Deadman Rd. An ACTIVE VAN will have a GREEN or ORANGE sign with their team number in the front window. The INACTIVE VAN MUST turn left on Manhattan Rd to take the Inactive Van route. The reason for separating the vans is to limit the amount of traffic on this section of road. The road is dirt for a majority of the way and can become very dusty, so it is a courtesy to the runners.
To see where you should be positioned, please look at the map.
VOLUNTEER DUTIES - you can decide amongst yourselves who will do which task:
ALL VOLUNTEERS:
* For safety and insurance reasons, the wearing of headphones or ear buds (iPods) by active runners is prohibited and will cause the entire team to be disqualified. Make a note on the Exchange Time Sheet of any violations.
* Keeping the exchange clean of trash, and if at night, making sure runners keep the noise down - music off in vans, no shouting/cheering, no slamming of van doors
* If any teams do not follow your instructions, make a note with an explanation of the Exchange Time Sheet.
* Make sure runners stay off to the side of the road to prevent conflicts with active traffic.
ACTIVE VAN/PARKING MONITOR
* Proactively direct vans to the direction they should go
If you need facilities, the Pot Belly Restaurant across the street has bathrooms or you can go back to Exchange 12. Be sure to bring water and food for yourself.
